The Cause for Paws 2010 Fashion Show & Valentines Dance, Feb 13th 2010, In the summer of 2009 at the Lancaster Event Center Dr Shari Hier-Duffin, OBGYN and Animal lover walked over to a booth called Cause for Paws. She had never heard of this organization but after getting the thrust of their mission she knew that she wanted to help. She graciously offered to fund some type of event to help raise more money for local animal Charities. DR Shari Hier-Duffin with Three Legged AngelShe didn't care what the event was. When Cause for Paws Director Adair Sue Smith-Sturgis learned about this generous offer it didn't take long for the idea to emerge. Sue & Shari decided to have a fashion show. Let’s have beautiful ladies dressed in fashions from her store parading down a catwalk with the animals they love. Sue chose the date, February 13th, The Saturday before Valentine’s Day. The logistic co-ordination of the event would need collaboration from people of many crafts & skills. It turns out that these people magically began to appear all wanting to donate their time and skills for this worthy cause. From the artistry of event posters to the decoration of the ballroom. I think it was safe to say everyone was stunned just how fast the show date approached and how challenging the task would be. As the event night approached there was trepidation about its success. This anxiety was cast away when the ballroom was filled beyond capacity to Standing room only. As the first model walked down the runway it was clear that the night would be a success!  There was a smile of adoration on every face as everyone in the room bonded with their mutual love for animals.  At the end of the evening the accolades for a job well done was only outweighed by the funds raised from ticket sales, clothing sales, drink tickets and many exquisite items donated for the silent auction. In the end we were able to send large checks to, The Cat House, Lincoln Animal Ambassadors, The Capital Humane Society, Hearts United for Animals, Dogs Deserve Better, Coalition for Pet Protection, Big Dogs Big Paws and Great Pyrenees Rescue of Nebraska. The show was such a success we have decided to do it again next year.
I think a little later like mid April with a bigger venue and a better runway, sound & lighting system. If anyone would like to donate their technical prowess in setting up such an event please e-mail Cause for Paws at info@causeforpawslincoln.com. It’s not too early to assemble a more powerful production team.
